As I explore the streets and alleyways, I’m amazed by the amount of construction.  Everywhere I look, there is scaffolding, cranes, and construction workers busily transforming Israel’s capital. The ancient stone walls built by our ancestors live side by side with modern apartments, contrasting past with present. 

Jerusalem, a hustling and bustling metropolis, is a wonderful combination of our past and our heritage mixed with our hopes and prayers for a better future.

Additional floors are added to accomodate additional apartments above the existing floors. Pro Tip:  When purchasing an apartment in a Tama 38  project, carefully read the “fine print,” known as the technical specifications.  The developer may plan to renovate the lobby of the existing building without refinishing the stairwell.  Hire an expert to review the technical specifications so you know what is and isn't included in the building’s upgrade. 

Preserve our past and build your future

In addition to Tama 38 projects, a developer might demolish an existing building and build an entirely new structure.  With the limited land in and around Jerusalem, demolishing an older building could be the most feasible option for a developer.  

Before a contractor takes a sledgehammer to any building, approval from the city is required. If a building has been classified as a historical building, the preservation department needs to approve any demolition and renovations. 

We are a people with a rich history, and we want to preserve our heritage and respect the beauty of Jerusalem’s past.
