The foundation of our Home
When we first arrived in Israel, getting used to Sundays as a workday was not easy. The marathon meetings, rigorous schedules and endless planning start bright and early Sunday morning. By the time Shabbat comes , I am so thankful to Hashem for the gift of this special day.
Shabbat comes with a sense of peace and tranquility which helps us take a break from our hectic lives by putting our work aside. I shut off the computer, put away the paint swatches, the stone and wood samples and set the art of creating aside. It’s a time to reconnect with our inner selves, with our families, and with Hashem as well, giving us the opportunity to reflect on the important things in life.
By Thursday evening the aroma of freshly baked challah permeates our home and the bouquet of heavenly flavors arouses the senses in anticipation of the delicacies served at the Shabbat meal. Friday afternoon, as Jerusalem starts to quiet down, the finishing touches are completed. Our table is beautifully set with fine china and silverware and a table center piece inspiration is always a welcome addition. As the siren sounds, I light the candles and we welcome in the essence of Shabbat.
May the peace and tranquility of Shabbat carry us through the week and may the worldwide unity experienced this past Shabbat be a merit for all Am Yisrael.
