Celebrating Israel Independence Day
Yom Haatzmaut is a time of joy and celebration as we celebrate Israel's 75th birthday this year. It's a time to get together with family and friends, to celebrate our love and committment for our Jewish State. It's an opportunity to enjoy the nature of our beautiful country and reflect on the remarkable journey that has brought us to this day.
It’s hard to believe that Israel is 75 years old. All over the country, flags of blue and white fly proudly from cars, homes, and along the streets. There’s so much joy as everyone joins together to celebrate. Even though I wasn’t born here, I’m part of the country's festivities, and whether you plan to make aliyah or want to have an elegant home for your visits, you’ll feel the same way.
Changing from sadness to celebration
Israeli Independence Day begins at the end of Memorial Day. Originally from Toronto, I can’t help but marvel at the switch between the two days. For 24 hours, all over Israel, there are ceremonies remembering the soldiers who bravely gave their lives for the country. We remember the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, daughter, sons and friends that terrorist have killed. Personal stories are shared on television, in newspapers, and social media. The siren sounds for 2 minutes of silence as the whole country comes to a standstill, bowing heads and honoring the fallen.
But 24 hours later, it all changes. Throughout the country, ceremonies signify the end of Memorial Day and the beginning of Independence Day. Israel bursts into celebration. We have prevailed and will continue to thrive against all threats. Whether you have just made aliyah or were born in Israel, you erupt in excitement. Music plays as Israelis rejoice into the early morning light of dawn.
This year we'll be celebrating at a friend’s home for breakfast of many tasty cheeses, crepes, rolls, and yummy desserts. We'll watch the anitcipated airforce flyovers from our friends rooftop garden watching the planes zoom across the sky, releasing blue and white streams and hearts too of smoke through the air. Then in the afternoon, we'll host our family for the traditional barbecue.
Bringing blue and white into your home
For Independence Day, the space you celebrate in will probably be decorated with blue and white Israeli flags. Blue is a popular accent color. It’s a peaceful and inviting color, making you feel welcome. As a professional interior designer, I use blue as an accent color for area rugs, pillows, and armchairs to add a pop of color to rooms.
When you design your stylish home in Israel, add blue to carry the spirit of Israel with you throughout the year.
Moving to Israel
As I see the blue and white Israeli flags proudly waving on Yom HaAtzmaut, I often reflect on my aliyah to Israel. It’s not easy to uproot your family, pack your belongings and travel halfway around the world to start a new life. But Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people. It is the country of our birthright and the place where we belong.
As an Interior Designer, I feel incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the lives of so many families who have purchased homes in Israel. I know that I’ve contributed to their experience of life in Israel. A home is a reflection of the unique personalities and lifestyles of the families who live in them. It’s a place to nurture relationships and create everlasting memories. Being able to help families create their unique space and make it theirs, is a true honor.
